Lessons of 1948

What can we learn from the British
struggle to maintain order in the land of Israel and the War of Independence?

8 Lectures examining
first the difficulties of governing Jews and Arabs while juggling the national
aspirations of both, and then the challenges of Israel’s initial survival under
attack from within and without. The relevance of those times to what we face
today goes almost without saying.

Lectures will include:

·   Too Many Guests at the Table: Why the British Mandate for Palestine Couldn't Work

·   Middle East Hot Spot: The International Commission for the Western Wall

·    The Jewish Boat People: How Crisis Shapes International Opinion

·   Partition Plans and Failures

·    1948 – How Ben Gurion Changed the Rules

·   Was There a Massacre at Deir Yassin – Facts, Myths and Unexpected Consequences

·   A Brief History of Palestinian Refugee Status
