The Camp David Accords – with Benny Begin

The Menachem Begin Heritage Center hosted Benny Begin for a lecture on the 46th anniversary of the Israel-Egypt Peace Agreement. The former MK and son of Menachem Begin discussed his father’s core beliefs. He explained how these principles shaped the negotiations with Egypt and the peace accord.

“Three Thoughts for Purim”

The Menachem Begin Heritage Center held a Purim event with three Jewish educators on what the Purim story has to teach us today. Rabbi Baruch Felberman discussed Purim’s historical message, Rabanit Shani Taragin linked Esther to Zionism, and Rabbi Gideon Sylvester spoke on Hamas, Hitler, and Amalek.

Since October 7, the term “settler colonialism” has become central to the delegitimization of Israel in the public debate in the West.
The Begin center hosted Adam Kirsch, an American-Jewish critic and journalist to discuss his book on how this concept emerged, what it claims, and why Israel is a central target for its proponents.

The Houthis, a group from Yemen, surprised many Israelis with missile and drone attacks on Israel. While groups like Hamas and Hezbollah are well-known, the Houthis were less familiar.
The Begin Center hosted Inbal Nissim-Louvton, an expert on modern Yemen, to discuss their origins, motivations, and involvement in the conflict with Israel.

Syria after Assad – with Jonathan Spyer.
The Menachem Begin Heritage Foundation hosted a webinar with Dr. Jonathan Spyer, one of Israel’s foremost Syria-experts and one of the few Israelis to have traveled extensively in the country – including a visit since the fall of Assad. He discussed the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria and the implications it has on Israel.

The journal
“Yehee” is a new, radical voice in Israeli culture, focusing on showcasing a more religious and right-wing perspective. Its special English edition was discussed in a webinar with members of the editorial team, who highlighted the importance of this voice and the influence of poet Uri Zvi Greenberg.

Young Zionist Voices is a book featuring 31 essays by young Jewish activists, both Israeli and non-Israeli. The book presents thought-provoking ideas and was launched with a special panel, moderated by former government spokesman and renowned podcaster and Israel advocate, Eylon Levy.

The Begin Center, was delighted to be screening “Proof of Identity”, a production of POLIN – Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. 

This is the recording of the panel discussion held after the screening, on “Jewish Identity in Israel and the Diaspora”, with award-winning Israeli documentary maker Yasmine Kainy; and Tel Aviv City Councilman, Noah Efron.

Embracing Jewish and Zionist Identity post Oct 7

The Begin Center
hosted Prof. Gil Troy to discuss his new book “To Resist the Academic Intifada.” Sitting with Troy on the panel was May Brown, Nora Rosenfeld as well as Aviv Troy.
Introductions were given by Paul Gross and Prof. Yedidia Stern.

Israel in the Arab Media – Susan Quitaz

Begin center hosted
Susan Quitaz, a Kurdish -Swedish journalist specialising in Israeli politics and Islam to speak about Arab media and the anti-Israel media coverage of Israel as well as to discuss her own Kurdish identity and affinity with Israel.

Donald Trump has had numerous accomplishments as president during his first term. The question arises whether the second Trump term will be a repeat of the first.

To answer this question and more, the Begin Center was honored to host Elliott Abrams, an expert on US-Israel relations in conversation with Begin Center Senior Fellow, Paul Gross.

The Failed Concepts That Led to October 7 – with Shany Mor

The Mosaic Magazine published an article written by political scientist Dr. Shany Mor in which he discusses four failed
concepts that brought Israel to October 7.

Dr. Mor was invited to discuss his essay with our Senior Fellow, Paul Gross.

A Special U.S. Election Debate
We hosted a webinar debate, providing our audience the opportunity to hear from – and ask questions of – Halie Soifer and Peter Deutsch, advocates for Vice-President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump respectively. Each one making the case for why their candidate will be best for Israel, for the U.S.-Israel relationship, and for American Jews.

Book launch: The Assault on Judaism.
The Begin Center hosted Gol Kalev, the author of “Judaism 3.0” and Melanie Philips, the renowned columnist for The Times of London to discuss antisemitism, anti-Zionism and the threat to the west from Islamism and the far left.

Book Launch: “The October 7 War: Israel’s Battle for Security in Gaza”

The Begin Center hosted Seth J. Frantzman, the author of “The October 7 War”. The book is based on the author’s fifteen years of experience covering wars in Gaza, defense technology, and the rise of Iranian-backed terror in the Middle East.

An audience with Rawan Osman: Her journey from Syrian-Lebanese childhood to Zionism

 

Not many pro-Israel activists and outspoken Zionists started life growing up in Syria and Lebanon to Muslim parents. But Rawan Osman is one-of-a kind. Leaving the Levant to study in Europe was the start of an extraordinary life journey that would lead her to admiration for, and affiliation with, Israel and the Jewish people.

Defending Israel from ‘Lawfare’ – with Natasha Hausdorff

 

In the months since October 7, British Barrister Natasha Hausdorff has emerged as one of the great advocates for Israel in the legal sphere, appearing on television news and radio talk shows to make the legal case for Israel’s right to defend itself.

In partnership with CAMERA (the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting & Analysis), we were honored to host Israeli journalist Alon Penzel, in conversation with former Jerusalem Post Editor-in-Chief, Avi Mayer, to discuss Penzel’s new book, “Testimonies Without Boundaries”, the world’s first book in English to provide firsthand accounts of the atrocities of October 7; containing exclusive information from interviews with volunteers of the ZAKA organization, the head of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, and survivors of the Nova festival.
 

Book Launch: “Adam Unrehearsed”

We were delighted to host the Israeli launch of this debut novel by writer and podcaster Don Futterman, set in 1970s New York City; with Jewish identity, the fight for Soviet Jewry, and Zionism woven into the plot.

“Responses to 7 October: An Anthology”

The London Centre for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism has published a unique series of three anthologies, featuring diverse essays responding to the atrocities of 7 October. We were delighted to host the books’ co-editors, Rosa Freedman and David Hirsh, as well as Michal Cotler-Wunsh, Israel’s Special Envoy for Combating Antisemitism, for an in-depth discussion about the issues raised in these books.

A conversation on “Safe Haven”, the new book that considers why Britain’s 1991 War Crimes Act failed so badly, and why so many Nazi collaborators escaped justice, with co-author Jon Silverman, and Dr. Efraim Zuroff, the chief Nazi-hunter of the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the director of its Israel Office and Eastern European affairs.

Understanding Iran’s Intentions

We welcomed renowned Iran expert Dr. Meir Javedanfar to discuss Iran’s intentions behind the attack on April 13th 2024, as well as the regime’s wider objectives in this post-October 7 Middle East.
